As I’ve been getting deeper into photography, I have landed on an aspect of it that has really been fun. Seniors. I’ve posted a couple sessions, and each time I enjoy it more. Photographing seniors is now the focus of my business here in Southern Illinois.
I met Olivia through a mutual friend. I was looking for models to use, and she was perfect! Olivia, and her mom, Chris arrived for the shoot in Downtown Benton, and we began our shoot at the old First Baptist Church. Talk about gorgeous! The architecture of this church is beautiful, and provided some great backdrops for the first part of our session. Her lovely flowy blue top went really well with the setting. I’m also in love with floppy hats, and was happy to photograph her in one.
Next we headed to Benton Square to the John Malkovich garden in the Southwest corner of the square. (Sidenote: Did you know that the famous actor, John Malkovich was born in our humble town of Benton, Illinois? Cool, huh?) The flowers in bloom make it the perfect location for photos. Olivia changed into jeans, pumps, and a dreamy white off-the-shoulder top. This girl pulled together her own outfits, and did a fabulous job at it! Earlier in the week she had prepped everything and sent photos to me for approval. I had nothing to say! She did great!
Finally, for our third location, we zipped on over to Rend Lake for some dreamy coastal shots. Ah! We were losing daylight due to major cloud coverage, since it was close to 7pm by this time. But we did what we could, and I’m very pleased with the feel and vibe this set of photos give. I get the sense that she is waiting and longing for something. Do you see it?
At the end of the shoot, Chris, Olivia, and I chatted for a good 45 minutes. These women are wonderful. Olivia is actually in college and was headed back for her second year the following week after our shoot. You couldn’t even tell she wasn’t a true “senior”. Regardless, she was a joy to work with, and I’m anxiously awaiting the next shoot I can do at Rend Lake. These photos didn’t do the location justice! So stay tuned!
